Shenkman Centre Show August/Sept,2010

I am currently included in the Arteast show "From An Artist's Point of View" at the Shenkman Art Centre , Centrum Blvd, Orleans, ON which runs until September 28.

This work in the show is a new photo painting in watercolour technique , entitled “Straight Ahead” , which has an interesting story behind it:

“This image depicts Ashlane, a popular and well known “destination” at the Agricultural Experimental Farm, Ottawa, Ontario. It took 2 years to get the effect I wanted, which was to have clean snow, with no tire tracks, no vehicles, no people or dogs, but with enough snow coming down to obscure the buildings behind the trees. Since Ashlane was at that time a commuter route, this was problematic as tire tracks would make dirty trails in the snow and piles of unsightly snow banks would spoil the view. So I had to wait till the snow melted away, then watch for a significant snowfall to happen on a Saturday night, so there would be fresh snow on a Sunday morning, the only day the route was not open to traffic. This took 2 tries in 2005, to no avail, and 3 tries in 2006, getting up at 5am, to beat the dog walkers to the punch before I pulled it off and made the photograph !...  Sometimes I suffer for my art.

This year I used the image as the source for this photo painting in watercolour technique , a new digital medium done with a Wacom tablet attached to my computer. It is similar in technique to “real” painting except I use a stylus “pen” instead of a brush, and can print any size I want as the result is vector instead of pixels. I am printing this edition in high end Giclée on Fine Art Rag paper (similar to watercolour paper)."

The painting  is the lead work in the Fine Art Portfolio.
