New York Trip

Posted on April 25, 2013 at 9:25 AM Comments comments (52)

Our recent trip to NYC was very exciting, seeing the New York City Art Expo 2013 as well as NYC sights. I developed a new painting with light technique while there, using camera movement, first from the Empire State Building at dusk, and later in Times Square.  See the Painting With Light portfolio.

We found the architecture in the downtown Manhattan area especially lovely with sculptural elements on many buildings, especially in the West Village,Soho and Greenwich Village areas. The variation between the various "villages" which flow into each other is quite fascinating. Looking forward to more trips to NYC.

Yes, I love New York!

Webinars cancelled

Due to insufficient response to warrant continuing with the webinars, they are now suspended, probably permantly. They were requiring over 100 hours per webinar to write, edit, test, record, set times, do auto-emails, etc, yet demand was next to none. There were also certain issues including the necessity to edit down too much in order to fit the time frame for webinars. Also some issues with poor quality sound in parts of the webinars. With no way to edit, recording over and over in attempts to get a clean recording was extremely time consuming and frustrating.

So I have come up with a solution: eBooks. I can now use all appropriate detail, including examples, pertinent stories, so the result is more complete and entertaining. Also you can buy any time, and use as you wish whenever, however often you want. No deadlines,no schedules, full choice and freedom. Much better ,I think.

I will be aiming at publishing the Financial, and Audit topics by March, in time for 2013 tax season. I plan to be using Clickbank by May, which offers a 60 day refund quarantee. In the meantime, will be using just PayPal. The eBook is supplied on a secret site online so it can be updated as needed.

Foyer Gallery

My hubby Robert Arnold, also an artist, and I are pleased to announce that we have joined Foyer Gallery, Nepean, Ottawa. The gallery is a little gem, not well known to the general public as it is hidden away at the Nepean Sportsplex at 1701 Woodroofe Ave. It is at the front of the building, with access via Entrance 1.

Foyer Gallery is an artist-run gallery owned by the City of Ottawa. There are 24 members currently, who share "gallery duty" , sitting at the Gallery when it is open to the public. Gallery hours are 3pm to 8pm Wed-Friday, and 11am-5pm on Saturday,Sunday.

The current show, appropriatly titled "HEAT" is a "Welcome" show for 6 new members, uncluding ourselves. We had an opening on June 24. The show continues to July 8.

The Gallery has about 16 shows a year, each being 19 days (2 1/2 weeks) long. There are usually 7 or 8 group shows that all member artist can particpate in if they wish. There are also 4 or 5 "Focus" shows that feature a limited number, usually 3 or 4 artists. Also there are usually 2 solo shows a year. The artists particiate in running the Gallery, dealing with sales, putting on the shows and verissages, publicity efforts, attracting new members, maintaining the website, and Facebook page. It is a lot of work all around, and very educational for the members.

The next coming up is also a group show, titled "MIDSUMMER VISIONS" starts July 11 and continues to July 29. The Gallery is then closed for 3 weeks until August 22.

Ottawa Art Expo Report

Posted on December 20, 2011 at 10:05 AM Comments comments (52)

This is a bit belated. The Expo was very successful from the point of view of public reaction to my work. I was swarmed with people fascinated and puzzled by the medium. Everyone wanted to know all about what it was and how did I do it. The second day I brought my Wacom tablet to demonstarte at the request of some who actually came back a second time to see it.

Many people said they had to try 4 or 5 times before they could catch me to talk to, as I was so busy with questions. In fact I am sure I only had 10 minutes each day to grab lunch! Except for those who had already seen my work elsewhare, only one person had ever seen my medium before, and that was in Boston! So this was a totally new experience for almost everyone.

I consider the show very worthwhile. It was well managed by the promoters, and evrything went very smoothly. Definitely worth the time and cost.

Getting Ready for Ottawa Art Expo

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 11:50 AM Comments comments (27)

It has been a hectic, laborious process getting ready for the big Show. About 6 weeks solid, with all the little details. Over $4000 in printing, show costs. Kind of reminds me of getting ready for a wedding: lists, lists, too much on the mind at night, early mornings.

But it has been exciting. Can hardly wait to see it all displayed at the Show. We set up this afternoon, and the Grand Vernissage, by private invitation only. If everyone brings all they are allowed, we will have over 300 people there! It should be quite the do.

Cautionary Tale

Posted on October 22, 2011 at 12:05 AM Comments comments (0)

In preparation for the Ottawa Art Expo on Oct 29,30,in which I have a booth, I booked a print job for some 2012 calendars featuring my photobased digital paintings for the reproductions kiosk. Last year the same company did a great job printing the same type of calendar, so I thought I was "safe" using them again. BIG mistake!!. The results were so dark that the calendars were unsalable, and will have to be turfed out, as I can't allow my name to be connected with substandard work.

What I didn't know at the time, as they did not volunteer the info, is that one needs to have a proof of one or more images done first, run back and forth having them done over if needed (at cost of course) until they are the  way one wants, and only then order the calendars or other product. That is the only way you have recourse if they screw up. So I have no calendars for the Expo, and am left with a big hole in my pocket, and am sadder but wiser.

While this company was conveniently close by, it was not worth that convenience, given the results.
