To get you up to date:
You will notice from the Exhibitions list on this websitethat I am in a show called “Arteast Juried Awards Exhibitions 2010” this month.( I won a First Prize in that show for “Getting the Run Around: ode to bureaucracy”, and also have another work in that show as well.) This "..Run Around.." is a color photo-painting on canvas version of a previous film based work.
There seems to be some kurfufle (is that a word?) around the name for the show and the confusion the show title is engendering for the public. An explanation: the show itself is open to all Arteast members and is not juried beyond the hanging/framing/must-be-original rules. However the works receive awards through a jury process. Generally one would assume that awards for any art show are not given out willy-nilly or by chance or lottery in any case, so why the word ”juried” is connected with “awards” is beyond me..The word “juried” seems superfluous here and obviously can cause misunderstanding when in the show title.
Hope the above clears up any confusion. I was certainly confused myself . And other s have expressed confusion as well. Over the past 45 years of my artistic life, I have noted that every group show worldwide with the word “Juried” in the title of a show has been actually juried re the content of the show. Perhaps the powers that be will rename the Arteast autumn annual show more appropriately and without that contentious “juried” word next year. Stay tuned.
This has been a very busy time lately.
I am also in 2 shows at the Shenkman Arts Centre. One is “Selections 2010” in Trinity Gallery, which,by the way, is both juried, and has awards, even though neither point is in the title for the show. My “Dance the Night Away “ is in that show.
The other show at the same location, in the Promenade Gallery, is the “Arteast Winners of 2009” which shows the juried awards of last years’ version of the Arteast annual autumn show, then called “Art and PhotoShow 2009”. My “Around the Corner” is in that show (won a First Prize last year). This show is invitational, not juried as such.
And the show in Toronto is the 4th show. See previous post.
